 All websites can essentially be classified as either static or dynamic. Static essentially means unchanging. The website doesn't perform any function or interact with it's users. Dynamic means changing on it's own. The website does things. It can do simple things such as remember a users name to advanced things such as manage huge amounts of data, collect or send money, or even protect itself. A dynamic website is, for all intents and purposes, a program just like the software running on the computer you're looking at right now.
